3 easy pieces:  layering up your spring wardrobe

  • "As summer is on the horizon and the days get longer, we will be lightening our wardrobes and excited to  make the transition garments that will make for easy wearing all summer long: enter 3 Easy Pieces. This is our theme for this workshop. By popular request- We have  added an extra day of studio time to this retreat!  Come explore your ideas and make your collection in this 5-day hands-on workshop with us. Maybe a short tunic, sheer shrug and pant? or a long sleeveless underlayer tunic, legging pant and a pieced shrug with sleeves? It can be a light, artful, and a collection that is really you in all your curves. Begin to imagine it now….will it be art? Will it be practical...maybe elegant? In this intimate studio setting, Carol Lee Shanks and I share design concepts, easy patterns, creative detailing  ideas and practical construction techniques designed to transform your vision into a memorable layered dressing."  Diane Ericson

"Spring 2016 shows kept me away from the studio most of the season.  Summer has been a quieter more introspective
time with room for ideas to blossom.  I purchased some new linen cloth recently that arrived without a useful selvage.  Eek! what was I do to without the detail that has become a signature part of my work - that reliable edge.  Eventually I found my way into a new realm.  The cloth as always is my guide and this time it took me back 30 years to the simple shapes I developed long ago.  These building blocks can be big or small, short or long, light or heavy.  As layers they offer different silhouette possibilities.  As blank canvases room for surface details to emerge.  I’m forging ahead with this linen.  New edges have come from my hands.  It’s a beginning for our spring retreat together."                  Carol Lee Shanks 2016
