This is a mixed media drawing process that evolved over several months. It is a recorded experience...rather than a picture of something.
This is a process I call meditation drawing. It begins with a large, blank sheet of paper on my drawing wall. It hangs in my workspace ...waiting for a first mark. On the day I glance at the paper and ‘see’ something- the image begins. I only make marks when I see one appear, or when I have a strong feeling something needs to be next to something else. I intentionally do not stand back to admire it, figure it out or decide what the drawing needs to be a good composition. I am not composing. I am making a space to allow whatever is unconcious in me to slip through onto the paper. At some point, it just feels like I am cleared out and it is done...maybe weeks or many months have passed. This is really the first time I really spend any time engaging the image....appreciating what has shown up and ‘reading’ and translating what might be there. It is a powerful centering tool for me.
Then the next piece of paper goes up. |
