Japanese Spring Bag
Mouse over images to see larger

The Japanese Spring Bag began as a collection of constructed bits...that I call Starts.

One of my design exercises is to play with all the "what if" possibilities before locking the pieces into a final form. As you can see by this series, I pinned the pre-constructed bits to my dressform creating a variety of options to choose from.

This is the place in our design experience where we stretch and grow our new work! Even if we return to the original idea, just the act of moving the pieces around into some of the other things it might become is invaluable. For more information about creating with Starts, see my article in Sew News Magazine: issue #280 date:Dec. 2005.
