| This one is made of delicate vintage kimono fabric. I love
deconstructing kimonos and obis, with their wonderful hand stitching,
lining and interfacing. This one had a beautiful orange/white/red
flowerish silk lining that is not quite enough to use for a blouse,
but too much to discard. I need to think about how to use the
lining. The interfacing also was marvelous--strips of cotton printed
with blue Asian characters. I will use the interfacing in something
too.
I love the Santa Cruz jacket pattern. It worked especially well here
because
the pattern pieces are small and fit easily on the narrow kimono fabric. I added a center seam down the back so the back pieces would fit on the kimono fabric.
I lengthened the design 4 inches because I thought I might want to
belt it.
I also added thin, soft shoulder pads to balance my sloping shoulders. The
trim is tomato red silk charmeuse from an older blouse which I took
apart.
The unmatched metallic buttons are
primarily from my mother's cookie tin in which she stored an array of
buttons. The entire jacket, from the pattern, to the fabric, to the
trim, to the buttons is recycled/reused. |
